Jurassic World: Dominion SPOILER REVIEW

We finally have ourselves a new Jurassic World movie, and it’ll mark the end of the Jurassic era. This film is of course Jurassic World Dominion, and will apparently be the final movie in the Jurassic Park/World film series. But is the movie any good? Does it end the series in an impactful way? Let’s find out. Here is my review of Jurassic World Dominion. SPOILER WARNING!

THE GOOD

Despite the film’s poor reviews, Dominion is overall a very fun movie to watch. The experience is very enjoyable. It won’t really make you bored whatsoever. I did hear some people say it felt a bit long, but I didn’t see it. I don’t really feel a movie’s length normally. Even with The Batman I thought the length was fine. But anyway, Dominion is a very fun watch. If you don’t care too much about the story, you’ll enjoy the movie for what it is.

Jurassic World Dominion Answers a Lost World: Jurassic Park Question

The movie’s CGI effects are stellar. The dinosaurs look really nice, as they always do. The movie is beautiful and the settings feel really vibrant and the esthetic for the Biosyn headquarters is really cool. And come on, that part that was incorporated into the IMAX poster with the T-Rex behind the circular waterfall is just epic. My only gripe is when Claire is falling after being ejected from the plane. That entire scene of her in the chair with dinosaurs flying around her looked really bad.

THE BAD

Even though it is fun to watch, Jurassic World: Dominion is a horrible movie. The main problem is the story. It’s always the same: dinosaur invasion, a big dinosaur that seems impossible to defeat, and many, many ‘impossible situations’. Owen falling into the freezing water, Claire underwater with a dinosaur right above, that huge guy at the end about to eat everyone, the swarm of those bug-like things taunting Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant, and so many more. Try something new, Universal.

One detail I really disliked was the dinosaurs themselves. Each one is supposed to have unique characteristics that make them super dangerous. But, just like Fallen Kingdom, they all seem the same. The only difference is some are big, some small, and some fly. That’s it. Even if a character says that one dinosaur can’t run faster than another dinosaur, the next scene could show them both running at the same speed. Seriously?

5-min prologue to Jurassic World Dominion gets fans' approval for attention to detail. Watch - Hindustan Times

Another detail I didn’t like was the removal of the prologue. This was shown in November, showing dinosaurs in the wild and invading a drive-in theater. There are two reasons why I hate this prologue being cut. One, it makes sense to start with it. It reminds the viewer that dinosaurs were unleashed into society before getting to the movie’s real plot. But no, they just dive right in. And don’t tell me that 10-second scene with the boat is a good replacement. This scene made me hate the movie before it even got fully into the story. For example, look at Avengers: Endgame. That film started with Hawkeye’s family disappearing, reminding us what happened in the final moments of Infinity War. That’s what this prologue is, or was. Second, there’s a stupid Progressive commercial showing this cut scene. Like, seriously? Don’t remind us!

Lastly, there’s the movie ending. This film is, for now, the end of the Jurassic era, so was it a good ending for the series? No. It barely did the job. The last 10 minutes were stupid, in my opinion, and wasn’t worthy of ending such an incredible film series.

Jurassic World Dominion Review: It's Time to Go Extinct | Den of Geek

I love Jurassic Park, and even thoroughly enjoyed Jurassic World despite its similar issues as Dominion. The way the series ended with the horrible Fallen Kingdom and now with Dominion makes me sad that such a great film series had to end like this.
