After 36 years, we finally have ourselves a sequel to Tom Cruise’s classic 80s action film “Top Gun” in the form of Paramount Pictures’ “Top Gun Maverick”. Does it hold up to the original? Yes, definitely. This is one of the better “reboots” I’ve seen. It does a good job of being a reboot and a worthy sequel. When I look at a reboot, I look at it in two ways: one, it isn’t the same exact film as the original; two, it still pays tribute to the original film. Top Gun Maverick does both. The story is not the exact same yet it still pays tribute to the original movie. I also really like Miles Teller as Goose’s son, Bradley Bradshaw (callsign Rooster). His hatred toward Maverick is very interesting throughout the movie. Then, there’s the end which is great. First, you’re not sure if Maverick is going to die, then it looks like Rooster will die, then they steal a plane to retreat back to base and do the classic “buzz the tower” move by flying around the watchtower. Top Gun Maverick was, overall, a great movie and definitely a worthy sequel of its predecessor.
