While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its great superheroes and high-stake action, the movies don’t get scared to be funny – especially a few. Some MCU films can get incredibly hilarious with laugh-out-loud humor. For this list, I’ll be sharing what I think are the funniest films in the franchise. So, in my opinion, here are the top 5 funniest MCU films. Slight spoilers if you haven’t seen all the movies. Anyway, let’s begin.
#5: The Avengers (2012)
The Avengers couldn’t have come together in a better way, especially when it comes to the mix of their humor. With the Avengers disliking each other at first and the whole team getting mad at each other constantly, plus Tony Stark, The Avengers turned into a pretty great comedy alongside being a great superhero crossover. While there aren’t quite as many funny moments as the other movies on this list, along with some jokes that don’t really hit, the original Avengers is still a laugh-out-loud superhero movie. And, shawarma.
#4: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
One of the standout aspects of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies is the comedy. The original movie has many hilarious moments, especially with how comedic the characters were designed as. The group bickers with each other all the time, which leads to very funny moments. Each character is funny in a different way as well: Peter is arrogant, Gamora is an untrustworthy assassin, Drax is hardcore but stupid, Rocket likes killing and guns, and Groot is Groot. Enough said. All of it mixed together makes it a high-ranked comedy in the MCU.
#3: Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Not only three hours of epic actions and heartbreaking moments, but also three hours of laugh-out-loud comedy. With tons and tons of characters, there’s bound to be funny interactions and moments. There’s a lot of comedy in Endgame, though it doesn’t take over the seriousness and action, which is great. The comedy stands on its own, and it’s hilarious. While some don’t like some of the funny moments, such as Fat Thor, you can’t deny that him and Peter fighting over the captain duty is hilarious. Endgame is a great funny way to end the Infinity Saga after all the comedy that came before.
#2: Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
How one of Marvel’s least-funny series could go on to include one of the funniest MCU movies is crazy, but that’s what you get when you have Taika Watiti and a Korg. Seriously, Korg makes this one of the funniest MCU films alone. But anyway, Thor’s third film stands out exponentially compared to his first movies, especially with comedy. Thor: Ragnarok is perfect, laugh-out-loud humor with so many funny moments. Characters we know like Thor and Loki were made funny, and new characters like the aforementioned Korg, as well as Valkyrie and Grandmaster all make this a really great superhero / comedy movie, and one of the funniest in the franchise.
#1: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
While I personally don’t think Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 is as good of a movie as Vol. 1, I do think it is much funnier. It’s not that there’s more comedic moments and new types of comedy than the first movie; it’s just that every moment is funnier than Vol. 1. Every character is still hilarious in the same way, and there are just as many comedic moments as the first movie. However, it’s just funnier. Characters like Yondu and Nebula were made comedic, the fights can get really funny, and the movie doesn’t try to make every funny moment stand out unlike Guardians of the Galaxy. That all just makes the movie so much funnier, and definitely the funniest in the MCU.
