The final film in the Guardians of the Galaxy series is finally here with Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. After everything that happened between Avengers: Infinity War and now, does the movie do a good job finishing the series well while also keeping the charm the series is known for? Here’s my spoiler-free review of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a unique series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Vol. 1 and 2 are films with lots of action, great characters, and the funniest moments in all of the franchise. Unfortunately, I can’t say Vol. 3 continued those trends perfectly. I was very disappointed in the lack of humor that made the first two films so special. There are a few laughs in the third film, but nowhere near as much or as funny as Vol. 1 and 2.

Vol. 3 has the difficult job of being a great conclusion to a great movie series while still feeling like a Guardians of the Galaxy film. However, the film focuses more on the movie as a finale than the charm factor. The movie does a great job ending the series with many little details. I won’t spoil any here, but the film definitely does the series profound justice. And by the way, the movie can get sad, but it’s not quite as sad to the point where you’ll need tissues.

While I have been talking pretty negatively about Vol. 3, I didn’t completely dislike the movie. It’s still a fun superhero film with great action and an exciting adventure. Also, if you haven’t been a fan of the CGI in recent Marvel movies, you’ll probably be surprised with the immense visuals of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. The only special effects I wasn’t super impressed with was Rocket, as he seemed to look slightly less realistic compared to past movies. Otherwise, the CGI is very well done.

Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 is a good finale for the GOTG series with exciting moments, but the lack of humor and charm the series is known for makes it, for me, the worst film in the series by a large margin. I give it a 4.3/6 on the Ryan Meter.
