Smash Ultimate & Luigi’s Mansion 3DS Reveals Turn 4

Personally my favorite Nintendo Direct was held on March 8th, 2018, which was 4 years ago from today. This Direct featured a great 3DS lineup for its last year with WarioWare Gold, Ditective Pikachu, and Luigi’s Mansion 3DS all revealed in the first ten minutes. After that was Nintendo Switch. This is where things got good. More info on Kirby Star Allies, Octopath Traveler, and Mario Tennis Aces as the highlights. After that was hit after hit, starting with the Wii U Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker port and moving on to Undertale for Switch, South Park, and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. This is what I call third-party. Then came Hyrule Warriors, and it ended with the reveal of the Splatoon 2 3.0 update and the Octo-Expansion DLC, and ended with a surprise “one-more thing” announcement. Splatoon? Though there were characters from Splatoon, it wasn’t more Splatoon 2. It was the reveal of the Switch’s Super Smash Bros. This was such a powerful moment and will be a big part of Nintendo Direct forever, setting the benchmark for what a Direct is. Happy 4th birthday, Nintendob Direct 3.8.18. You were a good one.
